Primary energy use scenarios for the Hungarian residential and public buildingsUploaded: 1 of September, 2013

The aim of the project was to provide a cost assessment of the refurbishment of the Hungarian residential and public buildings. The primary energy use objectives for 2020 and 2030 were defined by the project initiator. Our model assumes that these objectives can be reached by two means: refurbishing existing buildings and the modernisation of the building stock (substituting old, inefficient buildings with new, energy efficient ones). Input data for the modelling (primary energy use by building type, cost of refurbishment and the projection of building types on the overall floor area) has been provided by the initiator. The forecast involved several steps:

  1. modelling the autonomous building stock change
  2. definition of primary energy objectives for 2020 and 2030
  3. modelling the future building stock on the basis of the unit cost of primary energy saving (across building types and refurbishment levels)
  4. defining the aggregate cost of reaching the objectives.
