Modelling the expansion of wind energy in HungaryUploaded: 23 of May, 2024

The aim of this study is to analyse the market impacts of wind capacity expansion in Hungary. Using REKK's European Power Market Model (EPMM), we investigate how different wind investment scenarios combined with different PV capacities affect the Hungarian electricity system, prices, the market value of renewables, the composition of electricity generation, reserve requirements, and the overall system costs. Assuming different European renewable penetration and domestic capacity expansion mix (CCGT or electricity storage-concentrated trajectories), the advantages, disadvantages and cost-effectiveness of the different scenarios are investigated.
