Wind power potential and its impact on the power market in Hungary17 of October, 2023 - 14:00 - 16:00 CET REKK Workshop
Location: Wind power potential and its impact on the power market in Hungary, 1093 Budapest, Közraktár u. 4-6

In Hungary a very rapid growth has been visible in PV development, within a few years the installed capacity has grown to over 5 GW. However, the wind capacity has not changed since 2010 in Hungary, while in Europe the installed capacity tripled in this period. One of the arguments of why new wind generation is banned in Hungary is the low potential. The aim of this workshop was to provide a balanced debate about the role of wind power generation in Hungary. A recently finished project conducted by the Austrian Institute of Technology and REKK, analysed the technical potential of wind generation, and also the impact of different wind penetration levels on the power sector.

At the workshop we presented the project results and discussed in a panel discussion possible patyhways for wind energy generation in Hungary.

Speakers:

  • Gustav Resch, Senior Scientist, Austrian Institute of Technology
  • István Pócs, Country Manager for Hungary, EDP Renewables Hungary Kft.
  • András Mezősi, Senior Research Associate, REKK
