The online workshop focused on the questions of what type of innovative design elements are worth considering to integrate into new, or already existing auction designs for Energy Community (EnC) Contracting Parties, by presenting best practices. Specifically, the event revolved around potential plans to integrate measures focusing on GHG reduction, addressing grid integration challenges, exploring multi-criteria auctions, and targeting alternative technologies like CSPs, floating PVs, offshore wind, and RES projects featuring battery storage.
Renewable energy auctions have played an important role in increasing renewable energy production in the EU and reducing subsidy costs through competitive tendering. During a project supported by the European Climate Foundation, we provide guidance to the relevant entities of the ENC Contracting Parties on the implementation and efficient operation of renewable energy auctions, based on experiences with auction schemes operated by EU Member States. During the project we organise three online workshops, th first one about the current state of renewable energy auctions in ENC contracting parties was held on 12 December, 2023.
