In this study we present Hungarian natural gas consumption trends in the past few years and also predict consumption until 2015.

We forecast gas consumption separately for three segments:

• Residential and services sector
• Electricity production and district heating
• Industrial and other gas consumption

For forecasting the gas consumption of the above segments we mainly rely on statistical regression-based methods, which identify connections among the past and present gas consumption as well as a set of other factors. At the same time, we use the European Electricity Market Model – developed by REKK – to forecast the natural gas consumption of power producers.
