The COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and political disruption are having severe repercussions on renewable energy (RES) auctions, affecting RES procurement, delaying projects’ developments and auctions execution, increasing projects’ financing risks and causing a drop in wholesale market prices. The AURES II consortium analysed the current impacts on RES auctions and their possible mid-term evolution, providing Governments with recommendations on immediate adjustments to introduce in their RES auction design, to better face this extraordinary situation.
