During the research, we examined the additional costs that more frequent and more intense rainfall events, expected as a result of climate change, may impose on Budapest’s water utility system, with particular focus on the Budapest Central Wastewater Treatment Plant and the connected sewer network. The objective of the project was to provide a stronger basis for decisions on climate adaptation measures - such as stormwater retention and network development - by quantifying the costs of inaction.
