Roadmap to a low carbon energy sector in Hungary12 of January, 2012

Distinguished guest speakers provided us insight into their national experience on market design and investment into low carbon electricity generation. Hungarian energy policy makers and representatives of the industry participated in a roundtable discussion on the Hungarian decarbonisation plan. The lectures of the after lunch session were also presented by distinguished international experts of the field - concerning transmission upgrade, smart distribution, and electric vehicles - and at the same time provided introduction to the subprojects of REKK’s planned research. At the end of the day the director of REKK, Mr. Peter Kaderják presented the research plan.

The project is the third large research of REKK. Since its establishment, REKK has always initiated research projects that proactively and with a regional focus concentrate on up to date and relevant regulatory and energy policy issues that have a strong influence on the near and longer future of the energy markets. It is always REKK who proposes the topics and carries out the research, and REKK is responsible for the applied methodology and the scientific niveau of the published articles. Regarding the fine tuning of the research questions and the geographic scope of the sub-topics there has always been a dialogue with the project partners, who are predominantly the actors of the energy market of our region (generators, suppliers, TSOs, DSOs, regulators, large consumers etc.) The 2-3 years long research work, that is sponsored by the project partners, enables us to carry out an in-depth and detailed analysis of the chosen topics, and internal workshops organised for the project partners provide a good opportunity to discuss the preliminary results with the actors of the energy markets.

REKK involves in the research work also its broad network of academic and regulatory experts all around Europe, in the US, in our region and in Asia, that we have built up based on our almost decade-long educational and advisor activity.
