The Hungarian government published its new energy strategy in January 2020. The strategy and related action plans define Hungary's climate and energy policy goals through 2030 with an outlook to 2040. The strategy shall ensure clean, smart and affordable energy services to consumers and sets the following priorities: putting consumers at the heart of energy systems, strengthening security of supply, climate friendly transformation of the energy serctor and economic development driven by innovation in the energy sector. REKK's researchers had a critical look at the energy strategy. Their opinions were published in the journal 'Világgazdaság' between February 12 and April 22.

We evaluated the energy strategy with a look at six core topics:

  • Natural gas sector
  • Electricity sector
  • District heating
  • Decarbonisation
  • Renewable energy sources
  • Energy efficiency
