Carbon sequestration and economic impacts of forest management alternatives – using the example of the forests of Nyakas-hegy in TökMarch 2026 - journal articlesPublished: 31 of March, 2026

The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly tangible in forests: more extreme weather, increasing drought risk, the appearance of invasive pests and species, the increase in forest fires, and the change and deterioration of the production site conditions can be observed. All this is particularly evident in the case of low-yielding, artificially created, and long-unmanaged stands.

The authors use the example of the municipal forests in the Nyakas-hegy area, owned by the Tök municipality in Pest County, to demonstrate how different forest management strategies influence the carbon sequestration performance, economic balance and climate adaptation capacity of forests. The aim of the analysis is not to identify the “optimal” solution, but to demonstrate, using a specific example, how the choice of management method shapes the medium-term ecological and economic results.
